Mason 2 months

This morning was Mason's 2 month check-up and he is growing like a weed (was there ever any doubt). Ella was a great big sister at the doctor's office and held his hand while he got his shots. She ate breakfast and read every book in the room.

Mason's 2 month stats:
Weight - 12 lb 4 oz
Height - 23 7/8" in

Go back next month for Ella's 3 year and Mason's 4 month check-ups.

I always try to get a family photo with all of our cardinal gear on. This was about 2-3 hours before my head was in the toliet (or bucket) for about 5 hours.

My sweet kiddos

So Elaine was telling me this morning that yesterday afternoon when she was getting all the kids to lay down for nap Mason starting fusing in the swing. The swing is located very close to the bed where Ella lays down for nap. She was in her bed and could hear her brother and looked up at Elaine and said "here Elaine, he needs my blankie, that will make him happy." How sweet is my little girl!!!

September 28, 2010

Our little baby boy, Mason Thomas Grivna, was born September 28, 2010 at 1:20 pmin the afternoon. He weighed 8 lbs and 5 ounces and was 22 inches long.

Story about the day...

I had to call between 5-6 am that morning to see if there was a bed available before going up to the hospital. They had a bed so mom drove me up to the hospital so Mark could get Ella to Elaine's for the day. Once they got me to the room, changed clothes and asked me every question under the sun it was time to get the iv going. They had to stab me twice. Stab being a nice word about the situation. I have never had a problem with people finding veins and drawing blood from me but oh of course this nurse had some issues. Come to find out right after being stabbed twice by this chick they had a shift change and I got a new nurse. She checked me before starting me on petocin. I was already dialated 4-5 cms before they even started to induce me. She called Dr. Basham to make sure she didn't want to break my water first but she was in surgery and they decided to start petocin first. First several hours where pretty uneventful. I felt the occassional contraction and did get up to pee a ridiculous amount of times. When Dr. Basham got out of surgery she came up to check me if my memory serves I think I was 6-7 cm and she broke my water. Quote from Dr. Basham "don't white nuckle it, when you are ready for the epidural, just ask for it." I think I lasted about 5 more minutes because they were definitely getting more intense and fast. After getting my epidural it only took in my legs. I could still feel everything across my belly and in my hips which was getting more and more painful. They started something new since I had Ella, you can push a button to get more pain meds to shoot into your IV. Tried it...it didn't work and finally after telling my nurse about my pain they brought up a different doctor to fix the problem. I think she could tell it wasn't working when she came in and saw me in tears because of the pain in my hips.

The anasteologist kept asking me if I was 5'6" and I kept telling him no 6'5" and the nurse even corrected him by saying look buddy her legs are hanging off the table. He worked up some kind of majic dose of juice and put it in through my IV. I worked like a charm. I felt nothing for the next couple of hours. After they fixed my meds I think I delivered in the next 10 minutes. They had me do a practice push and then told Mark you better get up dad and get your camera ready - seriously that was the first push. No not kidding 3 pushes and out came screaming Mason. If they were all that easy to deliver. He was perfect and more hair then some of our relatives (ha! ha!).

If you have ever delivered a baby or stayed in the hospital lately you know they try to push you out of your room as soon as you are done. They kept coming in and asking me if I could feel my legs so they could move me. But if you remember I had a majic shot of whatever and I couldn't feel anything. After what seemed like forever I could finally wiggle my right big toe.

Mark and I were really curious to see how Ella would handle being a big sister. After nap time they brought her up to the hospital. She pointed to every baby and called them baby Mason. The true test wouldn't come until we all got home she got lots of attention from all of her grandparents so I don't think it would really set it until later.

After having Ella, Mark and I stayed until they kicked us out of the hospital. We were terrified of taking her home and having to take care of her completely by ourselves. Of how different it is with baby number 2. We were waiting on the hospital this time to bring us paperwork and then we were out of there.

Ella is adjusting well and is being a great helper. She does have some extra meltdowns and shows that she wants more mommy attention but overall she has been great. If Mason crys she will go pat his head and say whats wrong big boy. She gives him lots of kisses and hugs and she holds him almost everynight before bed.

(will download pics later, getting late and have to give the little one a bath and try and get more than four hours of sleep tonight)

So Ella yesterday got frustrated at Jacob at daycare because he wasn't listening to her. She then pointed her finger at him and said "Jacob don't make me come over there." Hmmm.....where has she heard that before.

So we had a very busy weekend full of shopping, swimming and taking naps. Mark and Dad worked on the basement on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Saturday morning Ella, Aunt Teresa and I went shopping and then packed a picnic lunch and headed for the park. Ella did very well but not so well at the nap time (just needs to be a little longer - please). Saturday night we celebrated Papaw's 60th bday with a cookout and of course cake. The Padgets came over to cookout and play in the backyard. Ella and Jackson sang Papaw or Mike according to Jackson (guess he hasn't picked up Eug from Jason yet) happy birthday - very cute.

Sunday after everyone left she swam in the backyard for a while and then we ate lunch and played inside since the heat was a little much. After her nap we cuddled on the couch with goldfish, milk and an Elmo movie....oh make my heart melt she looked up at me and said "mommy, I love you."

After dinner we headed back to the park in our neighborhood. It was a fairly recent added water park that Teresa and I tried to get her to play in on Saturday but she wouldn't do it. Sunday no problems at all. She was also very excited to be able to turn on the water herself since it is on a timer.

Status at Grivna House

So major progress was made at the Grivna house this weekend even with the record breaking temperatures we had in Louisville this weekend. Mark and Dad started framing out the basement this weekend with some help from Jason on Saturday. Mom and I went shopping on Sunday morning with Ella to get ready for baby Mason. Mom said it was my shower present - thanks mom for attending my shower!! I will feel much more prepared for the little guy after next weekend. Ella and I are off to Anderson for Jackers birthday while Mark puts up several coats of primer to cover the red and then also paint the room. I'm coming back without Ella so hopefully our fun Sunday night will be setting up the crib in his room. Monday night we are going out to eat for Mark's birthday and what will be nice is that we won't have to pay for a babysitter. Then Tuesday off to the doctor again for my next checkup & ultrasound!

Oh - Miss Ella decided to learn how to open her bedroom door this weekend so last night Mark put the gate up. This morning she walked up to the gate picked it up by the handle and set it off to the side and was ready to go. Obviously it wasn't up right!

Strawberries

So during strawberry time we went with the Padget's to Huber's Farm to pick berries with the kiddos. Ella had a great time with her best buddy Jackson. Every time she sees a strawberry now she talks about how she needs to pick more with Jackson. This is on the way out to the strawberry patch on the wagon ride.

I think Ella ate as many as she picked

Fathers Day

I know this is very delayed but in my defense we have been traveling like crazy and oh I am pregnant and tired. Ella woke up on Fathers Day at 6:15 am at the lake and I said "oh no baby come and lay with mommy"...next I know I'm sporting a major black eye from her head butting me on accident of course. Now she says momma has a boo boo and will kiss it. It's been 2 weeks and I still have it. After all those years of basketball I never got a black eye but I get one from my 2 1/2 year old.

Ella got her Daddy a massage for Father's Day and even kept saying Happy Fathers Day without being prompted. She loves her Daddy - what can I say I do to, these pictures speak for themselves - what a good Daddy you are!!

Memorial Day Weekend 2010

We went to the lake for the traditional Memorial Day weekend. The only exception is that this year we weren't freezing with sweatshirts on. We had a gorgeous weekend weather-wise and everyone was even able to get in the water and swim. Except me - a bathing suit will be bought before vacation. Way too hot for this nonsense.

Easter

We got home late from the Redmans but we still managed to color Easter eggs. She ate her first hard boiled egg on Easter morning.
