Screaming

Little miss Ella woke up screaming like I had never heard before last night around 9:30. Since it was a cry I had never heard before I went and held her for a little while. Nightmare or teeth, don't know? This morning she was completely normal and we had to read 2 books this morning before leaving for Elaine's. Definitely in need of some new reading material. She keeps picking the same ones over and over and I need some fresh material. I'll have to go looking soon.

Thanks Kristin about the diaper tip. Second class is tonight. The instructor told us to bring a life jacket so we can put it on her to get her used to it. Elaine is letting us borrow one. We'll see how it goes.

We have a little fish

Last night was our first diaper dip class at the YMCA. I was a little nervous on how Ella was going to react to the water. No worries - that's for sure!! She was all over kicking and splashing and getting mommy completely soaked. You would think that they would have swim diapers mastered by the year 2009 - NO. These things are terrible. Before I picked her up at from Elaine's she had already gone pee pee through one and she went pee pee through the second one all over mommy when we were waiting for the class to start. Mark had to work late and missed the first class but he'll get in on Wednesday and we'll take some pictures to share.

Thursday, April 16th:

We went out to lunch for seafood again today. Then on the way back we stopped to see where the Wright Brothers had flown for the first time. It was Wilbur's birthday so we got in for free - thank you Wilbur! It was very interesting and very windy so I kept Ella in the museum with Rosemary while Mark and his Dad climbed to the top of the hill where they had taken off and there is a monument. She ran us to death all over that museum.

Afterward headed back to the house to relax and got a family photo in front of the house after dinner.

Friday, April 17th:

This was our last full day before we had to start our drive back. This was also the nicest day all week to be outside. Not bathing suit weather but the sun definitely felt warmer. We went out for our last lunch and drove 30 minutes to Currituck Lighthouse. This lighthouse was open and we climbed to the top except for Ella & her Grandma. They watched from below. I can honestly say that I beat everyone to the top. Chrissy & Cory were hilarious glued to the sides of the lighthouse at the top because they were scared of heights. I can't even imagine taking a 15 month old to the top of something like that - would make me way to nervous.

When we got back to the house we took some family photos of the 3 of us on the beach and then Ella played in the sand for a while. I don't think she really liked it. She kept grabbing it making funny faces I'm sure because of the texture and of course she tried eating it. Afterward the sun must have worn her out because she took a really long nap.

Saturday, April 18th:

We left around 9:30 am. The ride really did not seem as bad or as long as it did on the way there. Ella slept for the first 2 hours and then we all ate lunch in the car and she played for a while in the back seat. We didn't make our first stop until 2:30 for gas and potty breaks. Ella screams bloody murder when you try and put her on a changing table in a public restroom. Don't blame her at all though would you want to lay on one? I cover it of course but it is definitely a struggle. Later we stopped in Beckley, WV for dinner and she did it again. She did really well until after dinner when she decided to poop every hour for the next 3 hours. Thought she would have fallen asleep when it got dark out but no - miss thing wanted the light on so she could read books and fell asleep when we got about 30 minutes away from our house.

Wednesday, April 15th

Today we bummed around in the morning at the house and decided to go get some seafood for lunch before our trip to go and see wild horses. Ella ran and played her little heart out so much that she fell asleep on the way to lunch and slept in my lap during 90% of the lunch. She woke up long enough to inhale her portion of lunch - she definitely doesn't miss a chance to fill her belly.

After lunch we went and picked up everyone that was going from the house and took off for Corolla for our wild horse tour. We got a 15 passenger van that was hiked up and had some heavy duty wheels because we drove on the beach and through sand dunes to try and find some wild horses that are prominent in that area. We saw 3 horses during the trip but it didn't even matter because the van ride was the best. Teresa, Rosemary & Nick took the brunt of the trip because they were in the very back seat over the back wheels. They were flying around the back making everyone laugh. We had a really good driver, his name was Mark (easy to remember), who described a lot about the area and was very entertaining.

We got back to the house that night and played yahtzee and shot some pool.

April 13-14th

Monday we all got ready and got in the car to drive and see some light houses. We drove to Cape Hatteras first which was the farthest one (about an hour). The light house was not open to climb and we learned later that week that it opened on Friday, April 17th but we weren't driving back up that way. Ella did really well in the car again and at the lighthouse until she decided hey I need my lunch people. Mommy came prepared with lunch in the car though and thank you to junior lunchables. On the way back we went to Bodie Lighthouse. This was a quick trip because it was starting to get really windy outside.
We had our Easter dinner tonight - cabbage rolls and they were super yummy and Ella had one also. She is a little gassy but she is also a Miller-Grivna.

Today (April 14th) is a little rainy and over cast so we are all just bumming around being lazy which is good for vacation. We went looking around the shops at the end of the street and the guy in the fudge shop sang to Ella. She was very interested in watching him stir the fudge on the marble slab. Afterwards we took Ella through the toystore that was located right next door. She saw lots of babies and balls. She didn't get anything new because she got all kinds of new toys at the house for Easter from everyone (how are we getting it all home?). Tonight is my turn to make dinner so I need to go and get our mexican dinner started and Mark is making the trip into town for margaritas!!
